« DayJams Die Hards »
Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 9:47AM There are nine kids that have been attending DayJams since at least 2004; they are DayJams Die Hards. I asked them what keeps them coming back to DayJams and what's one piece of advice they would give to a kid coming to DayJams for the first time. Ryan Reynolds: What keeps me coming back are the great people: bandmates, campers, staffers. One piece of advice I would give would be to enjoy the process and to be open to new experiences.
Jinx Jones: I keep coming back to Day Jams because I am constantly surrounded by people just like me, who want to learn about and write music. The staff, consisting of real musicians, is always filled with life experience. To first timers, make as many new friends as possible. These are probably the best friends you will ever have, because you already have a strong love for music in common. I know I’m still friends with people I met on my first day.
Brendan Krivak: What keeps me coming back? It's fun! I love writing my own music with my band and playing the song at the end of the week! My advice for new DayJammers... Keep an open mind. Be willing to try different types of music. Most of all-have fun!!
Rachel Knight: I love everyone there - campers, counselors, teachers! I've even met some of my best friends there. I always have a good time, quoting Wayne's World, telling music jokes, and giving hugs on Free Love Thursday all while doing my favorite thing in the entire world - playing music! Why wouldn't I look forward to coming back year after year? Make the most out of camp - join the cover bands [or other camp activities], play a part in writing the song, take a solo, and don't be nervous, enjoy it and have the best time, because that's what music is all about!
So there you have it: the kids who are most satisfied with their camp experience are those who are flexible and are eager to participate in the collaborative process of creating music with their bands.
